We know that walking is highly beneficial in terms of both physical and mental health. We also know that there are numerous walking groups available in our communities – we now wish to build upon these. By the provision of a series of self-guided walks leaflets we hope to encourage people in walking groups to walk at other times, and those who choose not to walk in groups to undertake these walks in friendship/familial groups or alone.

Initially it is planned for some walks to be identified in the Frodsham area, each starting at a different venue, but all with toilets and serving refreshments. The walks will range from 1 to 5 miles.

We hope to make the shortest walk accessible in terms of people who might have mobility issues, they could be wheelchair users, use walking aids and/or have cognitive decline. We also plan to make this initiative as ecologically sound as possible, encouraging people to be active within the local community, without having to use a car or other vehicle.

If this initiative proves to be successful, it is anticipated that further walking leaflets will be produced in Helsby and Elton. The Project Lead is author of books of Self-Guided Walks and an experienced walk leader with Ramblers UK and local groups.
